Unique Wedding Ideas
Planning your big day can be one of the most enjoyable aspects about the build up to your wedding, and can be even more enjoyable if you are willing to think outside the box! We’ve put together some novel ideas that will help to make your wedding day unique and memorable for all your family and friends.
Surprise your Guests with Personalised Notes
Consider surprising your guests by adding a custom note to each place setting. For example, perhaps Uncle Tom has been feeling under the weather, then you could write him a little note saying ‘ Thanks so much Uncle Tom for coming to our big day, we know you haven’t been feeling too well and it means so much to both of us that you can be here to share our big day’. For relatives and friends who have travelled to be at your wedding you can write something like this: “Mary, we are absolutely thrilled that you could travel from the US to share our big day with us, thank you so much we will never forget it xx”. These personalised notes will make each of your guests feel special and will let them know just how much they mean to you.
Give each Table a Name
Give each table at your reception a name. Choose from locations you have both visited, foods you both adore, the names of the places you went to when you first started dating, movies you love or songs that have meaning for you both.
Go for a Themed Wedding
A themed wedding can be fun, fun, fun! Pick a theme that truly represents you as a couple.
- Movie Buffs – Ask your guests to come dressed as their favourite movie characters and decorate the room so that it reflects this theme.
- 80’s – For those of you born in the 80’s or who have grown up or met in the decade this could be the ideal theme for your wedding! Think Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Wham or The Bangles!
- Nautical – Perhaps you both have a love of the sea or even work in the marine industry. Try incorporating your love of all things nautical into your big day.
- Shabby Chic – Adorn your venue with vintage style, shabby chic materials and items, perhaps adding some of your own DIY crafts.
Ask Guests to Contribute to the Playlist
When sending out the invites, include a template for each of your guests to suggest songs for your playlist on the night and the reason for the song they’ve chosen. Each song can then be introduced to make your guests feel like they’ve really contributed to your big day! e.g. ‘This next song was requested by Uncle John as he has fond memories of dancing to this at his own wedding & would like to share it with the happy couple’.
Instead of Throwing the Bouquet
Instead of throwing the bouquet you could choose who you would like to give it to. Make a toast to that special female in your life, someone who has been there for you and supported you and then present them with the bouquet. There won’t be a dry eye in the house!
